Baby hairs

I'm not sure how far into my pregnancy I noticed this, but at some point I stopped losing my hair.  At first I thought I got a really crappy haircut that was growing out badly and I cursed my lame, untalented stylist (I was an angry pregnant lady).  And then I did some reading and smartened up.  Apparently I wasn't alone - levels of estrogen hormones increase during pregnancy and for many women this causes hair to grow faster and fall out less.  So, I went to my not-so-stupid-after-all stylist who attempted to 'thin out' my hair.  It was a valiant effort, but it just ended up looked choppy and weird because, let's face it, I had a ton of hair. Thankfully, I was huge and past putting too much effort into looking cute so it didn't really matter.  About a month or two after I gave birth I was beyond tired of the mop taking up residence on my head and was relieved when my hair started falling out.  Normal hair, here I come!

Fast forward a couple months later when I started to notice new little hairs growing along my hair line.  Hmmm...this is odd.  Have I always had these hairs and just never noticed them?  No, can't be.  I showed Brandon and he thought someone should study me.  New hair growth?  We could make millions!  But wait, why does my hair look thin on top?  That's not right.  I was telling our friends at Easter about what a freak I was becoming (because who doesn't like talking about abnormal hair growth at brunch?) when my friend pointed to her forehead - she had the same hairs, but about an inch or so longer, which made sense because she had her daughter about two months before I had Scarlett.  Duh.  I was growing my hair back!  At first I was annoyed that it was growing back so publicly in what Brandon calls my "parking spaces", but I've recently started to look at this as a badge of honor: I'm a new mom and dang proud of it.  See?  Look - baby hairs!

Nine months

Our little boohead is three quarters of a year old!  And she's looking good for her age!  Kind of on the small side, but we're working on it.  On Friday she measured 27" long (25%, which means 75% of babies her age are bigger than she is) and weighed in at 15 pounds, 6 ounces (9%, which means that 91% of babies her age weigh more than she does).  She's a bit of a wee one, but we got some good tips from the doctor on how to beef her up.  More fat is the key, for her and for me.  Other than that, she is super awesome.  Crawling everywhere and babbling up a storm.  My favorite is, for no reason at all, "mom, mom, mom, mom."  I know it has nothing to do with me, but it's nice to hear just the same.

Here are a couple recent photos of Scarlett for your viewing pleasure...

Tastebuddies

Expanding Scarlett's palette beyond the comforts of applesauce and Cheerios is challenging and fun.  Tonight we tried zucchini fritters, which got a mild thumbs down.  Cut up pears and pureed sweet potatoes got a big thumbs up, figuratively speaking of course - it's more of a turn of the head or banging on the tray (I will not be eating that, thank you. please give me something else) versus wide eyes and a lunge for the spoon (more! now!).

Recently the boohead has become very interested in whatever I'm eating, so I started to give her little bites to see her reactions.  It was during a couple tastes that we discovered her love for yogurt and cous cous.

Mother's Day

Today was my very first real Mother's Day - I say 'real' because last year Brandy got me a present for Mother's Day when Scarlett (Sunny) was in my belly.  But today was for reals and it was fabulous.  I have such a thoughtful, loving, sweet husband.  I'm so lucky.
